Kentucky Derby Horse Track RESULTS - Kentucky Derby Results

2008 Kentucky Derby 134 Horse and Jockey Results

Big Brown, overcoming the far outside post, rolled to a five-length victory Saturday in the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. The three-year-old, unbeaten in four career starts, can now become the first Triple Crown winner since 1978.

Big Brown, the 2-1 favorite in the 20 horse field, becomes the first winner of the Run for the Roses to start from the 20-post since the starting gate has been used. It also is the third Kentucky Derby win for jockey Kent Desormeaux who
previously captured the race in 1998 with Real Quiet and with Fusaichi Pegasus two years later.

However, tragedy struck the Kentucky Derby when second-place finisher Eight Belles, the lone filly in the race, broke down shortly after crossing the wire. The three-year-old suffered fractures to both of her front ankles and was euthanized on the track.

Eight Belles' death was not a horse racing fluke. Two years ago Barbaro shattered bones at the Preakness and began the long and futile rehabilitation process that ultimately ended in an early death.

Big Brown returned $6.80, $5.00 and $4.80. Eight Belles paid $10.60 and 6.40, and Denis of Cork paid $11.60 to show.

2007 Kentucky Derby 133 Horse and Jockey Results

Street Sense, the 9-2 favorite, rallied from 19th under jockey Calvin Borel to pass the pacesetting Hard Spun in the stretch and draw away to a 2 ¼-length victory in the 133rd running
of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

Congratulations to Kentucky Derby 132 Winner Barbaro!

Barbaro, courageous winner of Kentucky Derby 132, was euthanized Jan. 29 after experiencing additional health complications related to the injuries he suffered in the Preakness Stakes on May 20, 2006.

Lael Stable’s Barbaro swept to the lead at the top of stretch and drew away for one of the more impressive wins in Kentucky Derby history as he powered to a 6 ½-length victory over WinStar Farm’s Bluegrass Cat in the 132nd “Run for the Roses” at Churchill Downs.

Barbaro scored his victory in the $2 million Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands before a crowd of 157,536, the second largest attendance figure in the history of the race. Jockey Edgar Prado, who won his first Kentucky Derby victory in seven tries, said that he had smooth sailing after Barbaro made a slight misstep at the start.

“He stumbled a little bit coming out of the gate but he recovered right away,” said Prado. “You see what he did when I turned him loose, he took off like a rocket. I never had a doubt in this horse. Mr. Matz did a super job. Hopefully we can get the Triple Crown.”

The 3-year-old son of Dynaformer became only the sixth unbeaten horse in 132 years to win the Kentucky Derby as he covered the 1 ¼-miles over a “fast” track in 2:01.36 and paid $14.20, $8.00 and $6.00. The winning margin was the fifth largest in Derby history and the largest since Assault scored a 6-length win in 1946.
